Speakers


John Atkinson High Performance Director and National Coach · Swimming Canada

John is the National High Performance Director and National Coach for Swimming Canada, a role he has held since March 2013. He oversees the entire technical program, including Olympic pool and open water programs, High Performance Centres, Paralympic swimming, and development team initiatives. With over 38 years of experience in high performance swimming, John has been involved in five Olympic Games (2008, 2012, 2016, 2021, 2024) and two Paralympic Games (2012, 2016), contributing to record-breaking performances and medal hauls. At the 2024 Olympic Games, Canada won 8 medals with 3 Gold and racing in 21 finals. It was the most successful stand alone Games since 1984 on all metrics for Swimming Canada. He has a proven track record in developing youth and national programs, as well as coaching and leading teams to success on the world stage. Prior to joining Swimming Canada, he held key leadership roles with British Swimming and the Australian Swimming Youth Programme, significantly advancing athlete and program development on both national and international levels.


Jack Hanratty Head Coach-Womens 7’s Rugby Olympic Team-Paris 2024 Head Coach - Ottawa Gee-Gees women's Rugby Team

Jack, originally from Ireland learned his craft in his home town of Skerries through his high school and Rugby club where he played and coached. Jack took up professional coaching at just 18 where he worked for the professional team of Leinster Rugby.

After 5 years, Jack moved to Canada and took up the role as Technical Director/ executive director of Rugby Nova Scotia.

Over the years Jack worked with Canada U17, U18 , U20 and Senior Mens XVs and U20, Senior XVs womens side before taking over the Head Coach role with the National Women’s 7s team leading the team to Vancouver 7s bronze medal, PANAM games silver medal and most recently Paris 2024 Olympic Silver Medal.


Chloe Daniels Olympic Silver Medallist Womens 7’s Rugby

Chloe attended Sutton District High School, Ontario and Belmont Secondary School in Langford, British Columbia. Daniels was promoted to Canada's senior women's Sevens training program in 2020. Daniels was a part of the Queen's University Gaels team that won the 2021 Molinex Trophy against the University of Ottawa.

In 2022, Daniels represented Canada at the Sevens World Cup in Cape Town. They placed sixth overall after losing to Fiji in the fifth place final.

She was chosen for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, France.


Tom Morris National Lead Coach - Women | Rowing Canada Aviron

Tom has recently taken up the role of National Women’s Lead Coach at Rowing Canada Aviron. He has been coaching rowing at the international level for over 16 years in Australia, Canada, & Germany. As a rowing coach he has helped crews to the podium at World Cups, European & World Championships, PanAm Games, Youth Olympic & Olympic Games. Of these, most notably guiding both the Canadian Lightweight Women’s Double Scull to a silver medal at the 2016 Olympic Games and recently the Canadian Women’s Eight to a silver medal at the 2024 Olympic Games.

Originally from Australia, Tom is a Chartered Professional Coach (ChPC) and holds multiple degrees in Psychology & Sports Coaching which he applies daily in his coaching practice. Prior to rejoining RCA, he also spent time applying his background in educational psychology and high performance coaching to work with the coaches and players at the Fremantle Dockers in the Australian Football League to develop holistic approaches to elite development and leadership to optimise human performance on and off the field.

Tom is passionate about coaching, specifically applied to the sport of rowing and working with athletes to create positive environments work towards achieving peak performances.

Judith Kasiama (she/her) Founder | Colour the Trails

Judy is an athlete, community activist, disruptor, and content creator who resides on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded Indigenous territories of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh First Nations.

Through her work Judy highlights her experience as a black woman that skis, rides mountain bikes, hikes, camps, climbs, and explores. Judy’s active participation in the outdoors brings to light the importance of representation. Through conversation and grace her work draws attention to underrepresented minorities by changing the narrative that people of colour are not active participants in the outdoors.


Brent Brandham (He/Him/His) Sr. Vice President, Sports & Entertainment  Gallagher Insurance – Risk Management - Consulting

Brent began his insurance career in 2007 and has worked exclusively in Sports insurance for his entire career. He has been leading the current Sports practice since 2012, and proudly remains active in the sports community, having served on the Board of Skate Ontario since 2017 and competing on the GTA Am Tour since 2014.


Christina Bennett Knowledge Philanthropy Facilitator

Chrissy has an extensive background in volunteer engagement and community involvement in the municipal government and non-profit sector. She has over 25 years of experience with a wide range of areas including community technology, neighbourhood gardens, continuing education for coaches, and major events such as the 2010 Olympic Torch Relay celebrations. Through both her employment and volunteer career, she has worked with municipal governments, educational institutions, community sport associations, and social service agencies to get people involved, set up new programs that support the community, and built systems to develop job skills and work experience in the population. The common thread in the majority of her projects is community involvement and engagement. Chrissy has connected with all ages of the population from all areas of the community. She particularly enjoys the positive changes that result from citizens getting involved in and owning their communities. She strongly believed that community is strengthened when people learn that everyone has something of value to offer.


Jill Sadler VP, Learning & Development BluePrint North America

Jill is a communication and leadership expert and entrepreneur with over 20 years of experience in the Food, Performing Arts, Retail, Sport and Lottery sectors. Driven by an insatiable curiosity about all things people, problems and process, Jill has held roles at organizations such as Maple Leaf Foods, Corel, the National Arts Centre and La-Z-Boy. She has a Bachelor of Commerce from Mount Allison University being the good Atlantic Canadian that she is, and an MSc in Business from Queen's University.

Jill is coming to us from blueprint management consultants, a group of business professionals and entrepreneurs dedicated to building confidence in organizations throughout North America with thought provoking workshops and engagements.

When she doesn't have her nose in a leadership book or a strategic plan, she can be found watching her two kids play sports, losing crib matches to her husband, or enjoying the performing arts in Ottawa.

    Judith Kasiama from Colour the Trails

    At the core of the Rowing For All (Community Sport For All Initiative) program is the creation of authentic relationships between rowing clubs and community groups. In this session, Priya Moraes from Colour The Trails, a partner of several club programs, will provide a refresher on the importance of working with organizations serving equity deserving communities, as well as some exercises to prepare for outreaches! Participants will learn how to successfully outreach to community groups and how to maintain successful, long-term relationship with their community group.

    Building on Session 1, Lauren and Tom will progress through each phase of the rowing stroke to support robust technical rowing and elevate athlete performance. Athlete case studies will identify how challenges were addressed to improve these skills.

    Gain insights around the current volunteer landscape and explore practices that support and engage volunteers in truly meaningful ways. In this workshop, you will gain concrete tools and templates to proactively plan for, attract, and engage, today’s volunteers. By the end of the session, participants can expect to be able to:
    Apply a strategic lens to identify what it takes to build a meaningful volunteer role.
    Identify specific opportunities to develop new or strengthen existing volunteer systems and policies to support volunteer recruitment and retention.

    Through his experience over the past 2.5 years with RCA, leading the Sport Science Team for women's soccer at Tokyo 2020 and extensive experience with other Olympic, professional and varsity athletes, Zach will dive into what stands out as the "low hanging fruit" and what we might be missing in developing the physical attributes needed for Canadian rowers to succeed on the world stage.
